…according to His abundant mercy

1 Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Mercy  Eleos - is the outward manifestation of pity; it assumes need on the part of him who receives it, and resources adequate to meet the need on the part of him who shows it. –Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

Mercy  oiktirmos - pity, compassion for the ills of others, –2 Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,

Mercy  Splanchnon - "affections, the heart," always in the plural in the NT, has reference to "feelings of kindness, goodwill, pity,“ –Philippians 2:1 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,

Mercy  hilaskomai (a) "to be propitious, merciful," Luke 18:13, in the prayer of the publican; (b) "to expiate, make propitiation for," Hebrews 2:17, "make propitiation."

Regarding Mercy:  God is a God of mercy.

God is a God of mercy. 2 Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), James 5:11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

Regarding Mercy:  God is a God of mercy.  We are saved by God’s mercy.

We are saved by God’s mercy. Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

We are saved by God’s mercy. 1 Timothy 1:13-16 13 although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. 14 And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. 16 However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.

Regarding Mercy:  God is a God of mercy.  We are saved by God’s mercy.  Mercy doesn’t negate obedience.

Mercy doesn’t negate obedience. Proverbs 28:13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Luke 1:50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation.

Mercy doesn’t negate obedience.  John 3:16 - Faith  Luke 13:3 - Repentance  Matthew 10:32-33 - Confession  Mark 16:16 – Baptism  Revelation 2:10 - Faithfulness

Regarding Mercy:  God is a God of mercy.  We are saved by God’s mercy.  Mercy doesn’t negate obedience.  Christians are to be merciful.

Christians are to be merciful. Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Matthew 23:23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. James 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. Luke 10:37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

Regarding Mercy:  God is a God of mercy.  We are saved by God’s mercy.  Mercy doesn’t negate obedience.  Christians are to be merciful.  Mercy won’t always be available.

Mercy won’t always be available. Hebrews 10:28-31 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The LORD will judge His people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Mercy won’t always be available. Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, Luke 16:19-26

Regarding Mercy:  God is a God of mercy.  We are saved by God’s mercy.  Mercy doesn’t negate obedience.  Christians are to be merciful.  Mercy won’t always be available.
