4 General information Lining up in the morning-line up outside of the classrooms if it’s dry and if it’s wet the children go into the hall. Once the bell goes, please step back from the line while we say our prayers. This ensures that we can move easily and sensibly into class. Talking to the teacher- Please email the teacher via the school office/ website or catch us at the end of the day.

5 P.E-when? Wednesday and Thursday and Fridays for 1MS and Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday for 1H. Children need a t-shirt and shorts and a pair of daps. Please keep them in school. We will be going outdoors whatever the weather. PPA-when and what? Monday PM Music and Art (both classes) This term 1MS weds pm.

6 Reading records- please bring them to school EVERY day as there might be an opportunity for extra reading and it is also used as a means of communication. Spellings are stuck into the books on a Friday. Children will have their books changed twice a week and will be heard to read at least twice a week. It is essential you sign the record book so we know they have been read. The books will not be changed if it has not been signed by parent. Uniform-please ensure that your child is in full uniform every day, including appropriate footwear. Please ensure your child has a coat in school everyday.

9 E-Safety At school we use the SMART rules and Hector the Dolphin Children in all year groups learn about Acceptable Use and being a good digital citizen Information on the school website or speak to Mrs Harvey A parents e-safety information evening is being organised for later in the year

10 New National Curriculum We are teaching the new Curriculum through a topic based curriculum. Every term we will have a topic themed week and then have a outcome at the end of the term. This terms topic is Where on Earth are we? We will be producing a museum type presentation on Friday 21 st November in our classrooms.

11 Class Trips/activities Visit to the Opticians- senses, sight. Walk St Andrew’s Park playground equipment and our local environment Visit a contrasting location (The Downs) Visit to the SS Great Britain. Brunel Visit to Bristol Zoo Animal care CRB checks-get them done now! Especially if you are thinking about coming on a trip. Payment-before half term this year

12 Homework Reading- Try to read with your child every day, even if they have already read the book before, rereading books is important to develop fluency and is an opportunity to discuss aspects of the story. School Reading book are only the beginning… Spellings-tests on Friday, encourage your child to write a sentence using the spellings we are focussing on the first 45 high frequency words this term. We will be sending a handwriting sheet home weekly. For those bilingual families we would like to introduce a Vocabulary Booklet. For those non bilingual we ae learning French this year so can always find out key words in French. Extra bits (occasionally)

13 Phonics Tying in with our reading and spelling homework, our children have daily phonic sessions. These are essential foundation stones to confident reading and writing. This will be the fourth year of the National Phonic testing where the children are tested in June on their phonic knowledge. (Reception covered first 3 phases of phonics curriculum, we aim to move the children to phase 5 by end of year) See website links for further info and games
