10 Any student obtaining an E grade on either the TOK or the EE must achieve 28 points overall in order to receive the diploma. E grades in both TOK and EE lead to automatic failure The idea is to encourage all students to take the core requirements seriously, not to produce a higher failure rate. Regulations

11 1. It is strongly recommended that supervisors spend 3-5 hours with each student supervised. 2. Works cited / bibliography lists only sources cited. 3. One set of general assessment criteria A-K that is interpreted for each subject area. 4. Concludes with the Viva Voce

14 Supervisor Responsibilities  Spend 3-5 hours with candidate  Discuss choice of topic  Help formulate research question  Ensure legal and ethical standards are upheld  Advise on how to conduct research, document sources, write abstract  Participate in Viva Voce  Know subject assessment criteria  Read and comment on first draft only  Monitor progress  Submit predicted grade and final report, confirm authenticity

15 Academic Honesty  Student is ultimately responsible  Work or ideas of others must be fully and correctly acknowledged  Supervisor confirms that the EE submitted is the authentic work of the student  Both plagiarism and collusion are forms of malpractice  Same piece of work, or two versions of same, cannot be submitted by student

17 Subject Areas of Interest  Identify 3 possible areas of interest and read the EE Guide for subject specific- criteria.  Begin brainstorming possible topics for each area, try to come up with 2-3 topics for each area of interest. Be able to explore these in more depth on Wednesday
