Y2K People, including programmers, reduced the four-digit year to two digits. This made the year 2000 indistinguishable from 1900. Each federal agency had its own Y2K task force which worked with its private sector counterparts. The total cost of the work done in preparation for Y2K is estimated at over $300 billion. People also thought the world was coming to an end. “The end of days.”

1994 MLB Strike The strike began on August 12, 1994 and resulted in the remainder of that season being cancelled, including the postseason and, for the first time since 1904, the World Series. The largest impact was to the Montreal Expos.[56] Not only did their dream season end abruptly, they were forced to lower payroll and sell off their four highest paid stars in the span of less than a week in spring training. With the strike negatively affecting its fan base, the Expos would never recover from the incident. Despite respectable performances in 1996, 2002 and 2003, the team never came close to contending again; the team was purchased by Major League Baseball after the 2001 season, and would become the focus of contraction rumors until the team was moved to Washington, D.C., to become the Washington Nationals after the 2004 season.

Pulp Fiction-Influence of Quentin Tarantino Considerable screen time is devoted to monologues and casual conversations that reveal the characters' senses of humor and perspectives on life. The picture's self-reflexivity, unconventional structure, and extensive use of homage and pastiche have led critics to describe it as a prime example of postmodern film. In 2013, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Grunge Movement Sometimes referred to as the Seattle Sound. Grunge became commercially successful in the first half of the 1990s, due mainly to the release of Nirvana's Nevermind, Pearl Jam's Ten, Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, Alice in Chains' Dirt, and Stone Temple Pilots' Core. Grunge typically fuses elements of punk rock and heavy metal
