1 Theory 3: SYMBOL: anything that stands for something else and has an agreed-upon meaning. 1.We learn the meaning of symbols by watching others. 2.We use learned meanings to help us imagine how others are going to respond to the same symbol and base our actions accordingly. 3.Our behavior is influenced by the meanings of symbols (attract or avoid).
