1 The Apollo 11 space flight landed the first humans on Earth's Moon on July 20, 1969. The mission, carried out by the United States, is considered a major accomplishment in the history of exploration and represented a victory by the U.S. in the Cold War Space Race with the Soviet Union. Neil Armstrong became the very first human to walk on the moon.

2 TONIGHT First, we will discuss the Final Project Then, we will discuss the United States. –In the U.S. we enjoy: Latest Medical and Technological Advances Worldwide –People don’t enjoy running water and electricity. –Thousands die from starvation and diseases.

3 Final Project This project is a reflection of all that you’ve learned. There are three parts to the final project.

4 PART ONE – How have the events and issues of the 1960’s impacted your personal life?

5 PART ONE Discuss how your own life would be different if one specific event of the 1960’s had never occurred Be sure to discuss the specific event and how it directly would have impacted you life

6 PART TWO Considering your chosen career path and major discipline, how have the events and issues of the 1960’s impacted these? –Using a minimum of two specific theories and concepts from your discipline, –Analyze a minimum of two of the events and issues from the 1960’s from that perspective.

7 PART TWO State your career path How did the same event influence your course of study and your choice of career path?

8 PART THREE From a global perspective, how have the events and issues of the 1960’s changed international relations? How different would the world be if that same event had never occurred?

9 APA Formatting Includes: The total length of the paper should be 7 pages. First page – Title Page 2 – 6 are text discussing the three parts of paper. A minimum of FOUR references, at least one should be from an outside academic source. Please only use reliable academic sources.

10 Paper Format Double-spaced #12 font – Times New Roman Separate Cover page Separate Reference page (APA format)

11 COVER PAGE Separate Cover Page: –Name –Course number – Date, –Unit number –Title of Paper –Remember with APA the an abbreviation of the title and page number should run throughout the paper.

12 REFERENCE PAGE A minimum of 4 outside, valid, scholarly sources –Not including texts from class –These sources should be scholarly, academic sources. No encyclopedias No Wikipedia or Wiki No Wikipedia type internet sources. No answers.com, history.com, etc.

17 Around The World Around The World In the United States, we enjoy the luxury of having all of the latest medical and technological advances at our fingertips, and we often take these for granted. This is not true worldwide.

18 In many parts of the world, people do not even have the luxury of running water and electricity. In many Least Industrialized Nations (Third World countries) thousands of people die each year from starvation and diseases that could be easily eradicated.

19 Our Responsibility Is it our responsibility to “save the world?” –I’ll give you a few minutes to respond

20 Our Assistance When we step in to “help,” what is one positive outcomes of our assistance? What is one potential negative affects? Please name one. I’ll give you a minute to respond.

21 The Impact What impact does our involvement have on people’s customs, traditions, values, beliefs, and ways of life? NAME ONE IMPACT

22 AMERICANIZED? Does everyone want to be “Americanized?” Are their “needs” truly THEIR needs, or are they our interpretation of what we think they need?
