2 East Midlands Regional Workforce Development Group Workshop 1 Carers Matter: Facilitator: Claire Torkington The Care Act, will require local authorities to assess carers needs and give them support if they need it. This workshop will help colleagues understand the resources available from Skills for Care to support them in achieving the best outcomes for carers, in particular to help those who carry out carers’ assessments. Workshop 2 The Care Act: Values and Cultures Facilitator: Mark Yates Positive workplace cultures are central to an organisation’s success or failure, and are never more important than when the service is providing people with care and support. This workshop will help colleagues to consider why a positive workplace culture is so important and understand the business benefits for culture, particularly in a changing social care environment. We will also consider importance of recruiting and retaining the right workers with the right values in the sector. Workshop 3 Shared leadership – A customer focussed approach Facilitators: Rachel Wingfield and Sarah Howe This workshop will help colleagues to understand the benefits of shared leadership throughout the workforce and the positive impact this has on customer experience. It will explore nurturing a whole system approach to leadership that is open and transparent which encourages staff to have a positive approach to risk taking to support customer outcomes. Workshop 4 Empowering ourselves through Learning Facilitator: Julie Barnes An opportunity for participants to take charge of their own learning – exploring what and how they want to learn to support themselves in their work and in their future personal and professional development. Workshop 5 Growing the Market Facilitator: Kerry Louise Bishop This interactive workshop will help colleagues to creatively explore opportunities to shape their local community marketplace for adult care and support provision, and facilitate the development of the market and prevent market failure.. We will explore the steps local authorities should take to develop and implement local approaches to market shaping and commissioning. Case studies will be used to illustrate imaginative ways of developing services and meeting community need. Workshop 6 Working Together For Wellbeing – Supporting Providers to Respond to the Care Act 2014 Facilitator: Melanie Weatherley This workshop will help colleagues to respond to the Care Act and the underpinning guiding principal that puts wellbeing at the heart of care and support.
