NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 2 An ISS program level Engineering Change Request to provide DTN as a service for all ISS users was initiated and approved in the last quarter of FY14 which authorized the following: A pair of ION DTN gateways will be installed onboard the ISS One for the Payload Science LAN (JSL2) One for the Operations LAN (JSL1) Another ION gateway will be deployed at JSC to support the Flight Control Team MSFC will re-purpose the DTN2 ground gateway that was used to support Cu- Boulder The DTN2 gateway will be integrated into the overall HOSC ground systems software build to allow for easier configuration management to incorporate new features of the DTN protocol suite as they are available The development of ION configuration tools to be included in the TReK software package that remote payload developers are provided free ISS DTN service (overview)

NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 3 All formal testing of the end to end ISS DTN architecture has been completed Some limitations where identified with how ISS DTN architecture is using ION as a DTN router for onboard payloads Additional testing was performed to characterize and document these limitations as the program made the executive decision to deploy service with ION 3.3.1 software baseline TReK demonstration payload will be pathfinder for this service and this payload will be used to identify any additional issues that may have been missed during ground testing. The ISS program is currently evaluating the procedure for how to upgrade all ION version to ION 3.4.1 which was released on 2/29/2016 This release contains fixes needed for the onboard ISS ION gateway to address throughput and performance issues identified in early ground testing The ISS is very rigid in the processes for how the onboard resources are updated, the procedure for this 3.4.1 upgrade will be used for future ION upgrades for ISS ION products Current Status of FY 16 ISS DTN implementation

NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 4 FY16 ISS DTN work to be completed The request to have the ION DTN router/gateway has been approved for ISS deployment Currently in discussion with JSC flight control team on how MSFC payload control team on procedures for installing this software Also discussing how to divide the responsibilities between JSC and MSFC teams on how to manage the nodes and develop procedures for how to add routing information to ISS ION router for new payloads TReK demonstration payload software is onboard but waiting for crew time to connect payload to ISS network so TReK can start there ISS DTN pathfinder operations The software is on the payload NAS and will test PXE boot to install it on payload laptop after crew steps are completed TReK operations will begin to execute DTN testing and be only payload to use the ION 3.3.1 implementation Once all nodes are additional TReK testing is performed with 3.4.1 the service will be opened up to all payloads
