2 Reference Desk What is a Reference Desk? The Reference Desk is located at the center of the library where you will find a reference librarian to assist the patrons. Reference librarians can help patrons in person, by telephone, or e-mail. The reference librarians can assist students, faculty, and staff, with specific information, and instruct patrons on how to use library services and resources. May I help you ?

3 APA Citation Style Assistance The Library offers one-on-one or group APA citation assistance each day in the library. You don’t need to make an appointment for the APA assistance from the reference librarian. Just walk in the library and ask a reference or email your APA questions to the librarian. A reference librarian will help you the following questions: – Questions about Bryant & Stratton College APA guide – Explain the difference between in-text citation and reference entries – Check APA citations for your research paper and projects – Provide an APA template for you. Reference librarians can also help your APA questions through email

4 Individual Library Instruction Librarians can provide individual assistance for the following questions: – How to navigate the College’s Virtual Library and Syracuse North’s Library Web Portal – How to use Microsoft Office, such as Microsoft Word, PPT., Excel, Publisher, and Outlook – How to find articles and eBooks in the library research databases – How to cite sources for research paper – How to log on and use Blackboard course websites – Tips for taking the online classes and assistance for online classes – How to log on SMARTHINKING – How to log on library 24/7 Online Reference Chat – How to upload documents to the College Optimal Resume website – How to use the College’s e-mail – How to log on the bookstore and order textbooks – How to log on the College Banner to check grades

5 Information Literacy Instruction Librarians provide Information Literacy Instruction for faculty’s course projects. Please send your Information Literacy Instruction request to Julie Zhu’s email at lzhu@bryantstratton.edu The Library hosts workshops to help library patrons answer some common library research questions and to provide tips on how to conduct research. Librarians provide helpful tools to educate patrons on how to utilize information resources.

6 Interlibrary Loan Interlibrary Loan (ILL), is a service that allows faculty and students to request materials not owned by the library. These items are borrowed from other libraries at no cost to current faculty and students. If you want to use Interlibrary Loan to borrow books, videos, DVDs, or articles, please provide the title or the subject of the materials to a reference librarian.

7 24/7 Online Reference Chat 24/7 Online Reference is a web-based, real-time reference service provided by the College. It can be found on the College’s Virtual Library website. It serves library patrons 24 hours, 7 days a week. In the 24/7 online chat, a patron can get one-on-one online reference assistance from a professional librarian. Bryant & Stratton College uses OCLC QuestionPoint system for the 24/7 online chat.

9 Library Events The Library, the heart of the Syracuse North campus, supports the learning activities inside and outside of the classrooms. The Library provides special events for all learning community. These events include but are not limited to: – APA Library Workshops – Library Seminars – Awards Ceremonies – Poetry Readings – Guest Speakers – Debates – Showcases of Student Work – Special Display

10 Library APA Workshops The APA workshops are designed to teach students how to cite APA format paper by using the Bryant & Stratton College APA Style Guide. Since the APA guide is very detailed, the APA workshops enable librarians to present topics based on the guide. The workshops can help students & faculty learn and implement APA citations both in the classroom and on the research paper. Instructor and students can request the campus library APA workshops during the entire semester. The APA workshops’ digital editions are available on the Syracuse North campus Library Web Portal under APA Citation Help Link.
