1. Each student will produce six black and white photographs of an egg(s) expressing a theme. The conceptual idea expressed may be autobiographical, thematic, humorous, historical, scary, heroic, informative, metaphoric, non-objective, etcetera.

2. Main points of the project  The project is conceptual  The photographs must exhibit good composition  The photographs must be high quality

3. What does conceptual mean?  If something is conceptual, it is idea based.  In conceptual art, the idea conveyed is an essential and very important aspect.

4. What makes a good composition?  Leading the viewer’s eye around in a balanced, yet interesting way.  Having an interesting and dominate subject and secondary subjects.  Foreshortening and depth of field.  Good use of value (light and dark areas).  People respect well crafted things. Sloppy and poorly-made things are a turn off.

13. Storyboards Cinematographers use storyboards to help them create good compositions before they begin shooting. It works as a “model” for the actual scene. You will do at least one storyboard in your DW for each photograph.

16. Egg Symbolism  How are eggs symbolic?  Life/Death.  A new beginning/an ending.  Fragility.  Individuality.  Preciousness

17. The possibilities.  The eggs may be altered with or by:  Paint  Clay  Smashing  Cooking  Dying  Drawing  Placing in a symbolic context (metaphor)  Giving it human qualities.  Making it about design (non-objective).

18. Storyboard Sketches  Research successful examples of storyboard sketches, paste them into your DW, and write about what makes each composition successful. Describe what is going on with the Elements of Art in each example.

What will be graded?  The Developmental Workbook  Six, 5”x7” storyboard drawings in the DW that are accompanied by the things (written ideas, Internet references, brainstorming ideas, thumbnail sketches, etc.) used to develop the drawings.  Six, 5”x7” black and white photographs mounted on black matte board with a uniform two inch border.  DUE DATE: December 15 th.  It is absolutely unacceptable to be unprepared, do nothing, or socialize during class work time.

21. Grading Criteria:  Are the six design/composition drawings complete, and is there evidence that a consistent and sincere effort was made during each class time?  Was each photograph artfully staged? Is the use of value, composition, and meaning successful? Does it appear that one or more of pictures were haphazardly thrown together without thoughtful development?  Have the composition and idea been conveyed successfully and interestingly?  Are the subjects connected in a visually harmonious manner?  Do the pictures encourage the viewer to think or want to know more?  Can the picture be easily dismissed after a casual interaction?  Is the picture in any way unique, universally meaningful, or timeless?  Are the photographs in focus, and was the proper resolution used?

22. Deductions  For the Personal Engagement category, one point shall be deducted for each time an incident is recorded in the Participation Chart for off-task and minimal or no effort behaviors.  Plagiarism (using other’s images) will not be tolerated.

23. Suggestion  Take risks, challenge yourself, and make something that you can be proud of,- something that builds your integrity as a thinker and student.
