Finding life at the cross Acceptance Reconciliation Sacrifice Good Friday: worship & testimonies Easter Day: Victory - Jesus is Alive! Hope

Luke 24: 22 - 53 36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ 37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, ‘Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.’

40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, ‘Do you have anything here to eat?’ 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence. 44 He said to them, ‘This is what I told you while I was still with you: everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.’

45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, ‘This is what is written: the Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.’

50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

Having found life at the cross – what next? The cross is empty! Jesus is risen Jesus appears again to the disciples before his Ascension to heaven

Never mind ACTS, how about DISAPPEARING ACTS! Is Easter all boxed up now? Are we living in a post-Easter void? Even worse, are we still stuck at Good Friday?

Is faith just a feeling? Symptoms of infatuation ‘SER’ and ‘ESTAR’ Out of sight = Out of mind = DELETE!

Does the passage help us understand who Christ truly is? Disciples’ reaction Our reaction?

John 20 v 29 “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed

Peace be with you! 36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself!

Disciples fear they have seen a ghost 37 ‘They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.’

Joy and amazement then reminder of His humanity ‘Do you have anything here to eat?’ 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence

Jesus’ Ascension 50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.

But where is heaven? Both physically and spiritually remote? How far up are we talking? Is heaven really UP? No never will I roam for I know my place is home where the ocean meets the sky I'll be sailing. (Rod Stewart – Rhythm of my heart)

Amiens Cathedral, France Symbol of heaven and earth here on our doorstep Which world is Jesus in at this point?

When Jesus was resurrected, death was destroyed, Jesus proved that He had the power to forgive our sins, and our earthly realm and God’s realm began to overlap.

How do we deal with doubt, fear and disappointment? Can faith truly exist when life is challenged? Perhaps Good Friday is a safer ‘place’ to be? Is lack of hope the ‘Mal du siècle’ of our times?

Faith is supposed to be an active challenge! Unanswerable questions test and mature our faith Hope can survive in disappointment The strawberry grows underneath the weeds, and wholesome berries thrive and ripen best neighbored by fruit of baser quality. Henry V

Eternal life is like real life and it’s happening now! Let’s behold the beauty of Christ among us and move away from Good Friday The ongoing Easter Hope will conquer all And don’t forget Pentecost!
