MLA Format and Citation, and Finding Sources

What is MLA? Modern Language Association Most common way to format written papers and cite information

Heading and Title You will have a heading and a title for this paper You can make your title anything you want Your heading will include your name, your teacher’s name, the class, and the date that it is due In your header, you should also have your last name and the page number

Name  Teacher  Class  Due Date  Title   Student’s last name and page number

Finding Sources and Quotes For this paper, you just need to find ONE quote from the play Romeo and Juliet Tip: Make sure your quote is relevant to your point! (You shouldn’t be using a quote showing how silly the nurse is if you’re trying to prove Romeo is impulsive.)

DO NOTs of Quotes DO NOT make a quote its own sentence. You need to introduce it! Ex.—Romeo shows that he is unsure if he should make his presence known when he says, “Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this” (Shakespeare 37). DO NOT change the wording of the quote! A quote is a piece of text taken directly from the work.

Works Cited Page Because you are finding a quote, you will need to include a works cited page This is a whole new page at the very end of your paper It simply has “Works Cited” at the top of the page with the citations underneath.
