Grammar Snippet: Conjunctive Adverbs 12/7/15 A conjunctive adverb can begin a sentence or come between two independent clauses in a compound sentence. Either way, it can be a good way to transition the reader from idea to idea.

Grammar Snippet: Conjunctive Adverbs 12/7/15 Directions: Rewrite the following sentences with an appropriate conjunctive adverb. You may leave them as separate sentences or create a compound sentence. Jeremy kept talking in class. He got in trouble. She went into the store. She didn’t find anything she wanted to buy. Your dog got into my yard. He dug up my petunias. You’re my friend. I feel like you’re taking advantage of me.

Graphing Data Get your portfolio/data folder out of the bin. We will do a bar graph for Criteria A and B (the emphasis of quarter 2). Make a mark for how many points your scored out of 8 for each piece of writing in each criteria (see below). Then, use a colored pencil to fill in the bar graph and show your progress. Writing/Editing Checklist Title a blank page in your notebook as “Q2 Summative Essay Checklist.” Based on your formative assessments, make a checklist of things you need to keep in mind while your write, and things you need to check for while revising and editing. Examples might include: Using transition words Citing quotations correctly Using taglines Connecting back to the theme Not using 2 nd person pronouns (you)

Miss Garlock’s Example Read the sample comparative literary analysis that I wrote about Othello and The Count of Monte Cristo. +, ?, Δ Highlight all the conjunctive adverbs. Underline or bracket the textual evidence with one colored pencil, and underline or bracket the explanations with another colored pencil. Now, add to your writing/revision checklist.
