Topic Sentence: presents the topic of the paragraph Transitions: words and phrases to connect ideas Supporting Information: relevant facts and details for topic (usually researched) Commentary: explanation of supporting information Concluding Statement: final commentary, supports the explanation, closes paragraph Example: Winter is that time of year when the precipitation becomes icy and it creates snow. According to Weather Facts, “snow forms when water vapor in the in the atmosphere that freezes into ice crystals” (Smith, 2). This means for the ice crystals to stay as snowflakes the surface temperature must be around 32 degrees Fahrenheit or under for these ice crystals to remain in their snowflake form. Therefore, it is always colder when it snows.
