2 February 7, 2009, on the way to the premiere of his own show at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Massachusetts Fairey was arrested on two outstanding warrants; damage to property for having painted two area locations with graffiti. Last year he fought the AP on fair rights use issues for his iconic Obama “HOPE” image. In 2004, Fairey joined artists Robbie Conal and Mear One to create a series of "anti-war, anti-Bush" posters for a street art campaign called "Be the Revolution" as the art collective Post Gen. He also co- founds Swindle Magazine same year with Roger Gastman. Fairey was a founding partner of the design studio BLK/MRKT Inc. from 1997-2003 which specialized in guerilla marketing. Clients included Pepsi, Hasbro and Netscape. In 2003 he founded the Studio Number One design agency with his wife Amanda. In 1994, Fairey met Helen Stickler, who would complete a film about his work, titled "Andre the Giant has a Posse". The film premiered in the 1995 New York Underground Film Festival, and 2 years later at the Sundance Film Festival. Shepard Fairey was born Charleston, South Carolina. He became obsessed with art in 1984 at the age of 14 which he started to place his drawings on skateboards and T-shirts. In 1992, Fairey graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration opening Alternate Graphics after graduation in Providence, RI. BIO
