1 DMIGS Delivered August 28, 2006, the DMIGS represents the latest of NGA’s technologies designed to support domestic requirements. Since Hurricane Andrew in 1992, demands to support federal emergency response community requirements have continued to increase. The capabilities provided by NGA’s DMIGS provide multi-faceted, geospatial intelligence support directly to on-site first responders and national decision-makers. How Does NGA Provide Support in the United States? Domestic Mobile Integrated Geospatial-Intelligence System Capabilities DMIGS is a mobile, self-contained vehicle that integrates geospatial intelligence analysis hardware and software with a robust communication system, enabling deployed analysts to receive and send data instantaneously to NGA facilities, allowing other NGA analysts to collaborate remotely on analysis and products. The DMIGS allows NGA analysts to work directly at the site of the crisis or special event and provide time-critical information on demand.Specs: Engineered and designed on a new fire engine chassis. Length: 34’ 5”; Width: 8’ 2”; Height: 12’ 10” Weight: 43,000 pounds Satellite communications via 2.4m roof-mounted dish Self-contained power via 32KW inboard generator Workstation equipment and applications tailored for domestic operations

2 Domestic Mobile Integrated Geospatial-Intelligence System DMIGS The DMIGS supports Federal, state and local government agency requirements. The Department of Homeland Security – DHS is the Lead Federal Agency in charge of coordinating homeland security activities between federal, state, and local entities for: managing consequence management under the Federal Emergency Management Agency; planning security and executive protection under the U. S. Secret Service; operations involving border security, immigration, customs; other federal law enforcement activities. For example, NGA worked directly with DHS to provide first responders products used for rescue and recovery after hurricanes Rita and Katrina. NGA will use the DMIGS to support DHS requirements for other natural disasters such as fires, earthquakes or other catastrophic events. The Federal Bureau of Investigation – FBI is the Lead Federal Agency for all terrorism crisis response, crisis management, and investigation within the United States. It also has the authority for interdiction and investigation of all intelligence activities conducted by agents of a foreign power within the United States. NGA supports the FBI for National Special Security Events, such as political conventions, inaugurations and sporting events. The United States Northern Command – USNORTHCOM is the Department of Defense lead for homeland security issues. DHS and FBI can request USNORTHCOM support to specific operations. In those cases, NGA supports USNORTHCOM activities as directed by the designated Lead Federal Agency. During a number of National Special Security Events such as the Super Bowl, the All-Star Game, the Winter Olympics, national political conventions and natural disasters, including hurricanes Katrina and Rita, NGA previously used equipment designed primarily for military customers. This experience demonstrated the need for equipment specifically designed for domestic situations. DMIGS was designed to support numerous homeland security missions by providing timely Geospatial-Intelligence capabilities directly in the hands of those first responders in forward deployed operations.
