In today’s fast-paced, information- overloaded society…to re-align NIFST’s activities to meet the real needs of our members, especially our young professionals Ensure the value proposition that NIFST offers to its members is relevant for your day-to-day challenges.

How do you see NIFST’s future and what is its role in your career and professional development? What will give NIFST“wings” to be there for food science and technology professionals in the future? 4 IN A NUTSHELL The professional body representing Food scientists and Technologists in Nigeria and strives to be recognized as such by appropriate government authorities and other agencies. Affiliated to the (IuFoST) and has a collaborative partnership with other International bodies such as IFT (USA) and NIFSTamongst others. Ably represented in the Councils of NAFDAC, SON and the (FMoH). A non- governmental organization, established in 1976, with the cardinal objectives of;

5 i.Promoting the development and application of Science and Technology to every aspect of Food. ii.Disseminating knowledge amongst Food Scientists and Food Technologists by sponsoring studies, workshops, symposia, seminars, and publications aimed at focusing attention on food issues and associated government policies and actions. iii.Function as the professional body of Food Scientists and Food Technologists in Nigeria that will be in a position to provide authoritative advice and guidance on all food matters and on the planning and development of curricula in the training of Food Scientists and Technologists. iv.Collaborating with other bodies, both national and international, in promoting professional ethics as well as proficiency among members who are employed in food research, the food industry, food standardization and regulatory bodies and in the institutions of higher learning.

6 Programmes run by the Institute include in-house training seminars and courses, workshops, symposia and exhibitions, all aimed at furthering the practice of the food profession in the country and Internationally. Administration: The Institute is run by an elected Council, headed by a President, with local chapter areas manned by chapter chairmen. There are currently ten chapters pan- Nigeria. Membership of the Institute currently stands at about seven thousand, (7,000) spread across various areas of the food profession made up of individual and corporate members.
