3 Our Strategic Framework: people in the lead ─ People should be in the lead in improving their lives and communities ─ Focus on the skills, assets and energy that people can draw upon and the potential in their ideas ─ Increased resilience in local communities in the face of future challenges

4 England Portfolio 2016-2021 We will enable people across England to take the lead by using their local knowledge, strengths and assets to test and grow ideas that matter most to them, and to share learning about ‘what went well’ and ‘what didn’t’ so that many more can benefit. By taking the lead, people will create: Happier and stronger relationships in and across communities Healthier and sustainable places and spaces Early action to prevent problems and tackle disadvantage Enabling People to take the Lead (using knowledge, strengths & assets) Early Action to prevent problems & tackle disadvantage Happier & Stronger Relationships Healthier and Sustainable Places & Spaces

9 People in the Lead in Lincs: Toft Newton village hall ─ Isolated rural area, very limited leisure or transport facilities ─ Former MoD site neglected since closure ─ Community formed Toft Newton Village Hall Association: entirely volunteer-run ─ New hall currently under construction ─ Sustainability: revenue from hire of social club ─ Flexible and accessible facility; learning facilities; sports clubs; social centre ─ Increased community wellbeing and cohesion
