2 Lesson 5.7 How to solve two step linear equations. Guidelines: Use the methods previously learned for isolating the variable when solving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division equations. 4 x + 18 = 6 Step 1. Add -18 to both sides. - 18 -18 4 x = -12 Step 2. Divide 4 from both sides. 4 x = -3 Does the solution work? 4(-3) + 18 = 6 Yes!

3 x - 4 = 32 3 Step 1. Add + 4 to both sides. +4 Step 2. Multiply both sides by 3 x = 36 3 3 3 x = 108 Does the solution work? 108 - 4 = 32 3 36 - 4 = 32 Yes!

4 Practice: 6 x - 12 = -36 a + 1 = 3 15 3 5 1.2 w + 2 = 62

5 Amy spent $33 at the mall. She bought a blouse for $17, and four pairs of socks. How much did she pay for one pair of socks? Number of pairs of socks. Cost of socks + Cost of blouse = Total Cost 4s+ 17= 33 Solve
