3 The Research A Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial of a new approach to living with dementia and other mental health issues in ExtraCare housing schemes EOP compared with attention placebo 10 sites, randomised but stratified 18 month study – baseline, 6 month, 12 month (placebo also became EOP) and 18 month Conclusions 50% less likely to move out, spent less time in hospital, more likely to have a GP visit, more likely to see community PAMs, mental health problems more likely to be diagnosed, less decline in cognitive function, quality of life rated more positively, reported reduced levels of depression, more activities and more fun* and improved well being*

5 Operational EOP Referral:- everyone, detail of disabling nature of impairments Screening and profiling:- treatment where required, relationship and detailed assessing Communication:- enabling the whole team to apply enriched support to people Group work:- Cognitive Stimulation Therapy and workshop, reminiscence, newspaper, music, dance, art……….

6 Stories Impairment V Disability – cutlery Seating- Simples but not always Attachment & Comfort – cat doll Life history – ceased to upset the neighbours Bereavement – pet therapy Home is where the heart is - favourite things and time enjoyed there.

7 Future EOP organisation wide – new locksmiths – natural intuition, two site working Stigmatisation – (improved) starting to developing community Drop in sessions Healthy brain health promotion Living wills/advanced directives Funding?
