Gold Nanorods- used in cancer detection Carbon Nanotubes- used in bullet proofing Graphene Devices- used for sensing Hazardous Substances

GOLD NANORODS In Cancer Detection  ID’s the proteins found on the exteriors of cancer cells  Gold nanoparticles shaped like rods, use specialized antibodies to latch onto the protein markers for all types of cancer  Once attached the gold nanorods reflect a light marking cancer cells to distinguish them from healthy cells  Using this procedure allows Doctors a precise visual of the cancer, so that they may remove only that Cancer Tumor Coated with Gold Nanorods Healthy Tissue

In Cancer Detection

CARBON NANOTUBES Used in Bullet Proofing  A carbon nanotube is an atom thick-cylinder chemically related to graphite  Its lightweight, its extremely strong, and it can absorb a great deal of energy  In a bulletproof vest, millions of carbon nanotubes make up carbon nanofibres, which are woven together to create an extremely lightweight impenetrable material

GRAPHENE SENSORING Hazardous Material Sensors  Derived from Graphite Graphene, a single layer of sp2 bonded carbon atoms  Being one atom thick graphene is highly sensitive to changes on their surface  When changes occur on the surface the sensor only activated when it is exposed to hazmat will set off alerting those using the sensor device.  Can detect Ammonia, Nitrogen Dioxide, other gases and even food borne pathogens and light! (infrared) Graphene at the Nano meter scale Used to detect Malaria infected blood cells
