2 Objectives: Attract/retain numerous, well-trained, motivated researchers in Europe Continuity of FP6, with focus on structuring impact Development of adequate and broad skills for both the private and public sector; increased private sector participation Stimulate people to enter into the profession of researcher Encouraging researchers to stay in Europe Attracting researchers from around the world One main condition to be eligible: Mobility Employment contracts with attractive salaries, working conditions and full social rights Addressed to researchers at all stages of their careers Application done through calls for proposals All research fields eligible for funding (bottom-up approach) Peer-reviewed international evaluation

Europe Member States (MS): EU 27 Associated Countries (AC): Switzerland, Israel, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Turkey, Croatia, FYROM, Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Republic of Moldova Third countries (TC): International Cooperation Participant Countries (ICPC) – Latin America, Africa, Pacific and Asia Other Third Countries (OTC): USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, etc

4 Intra-European Fellowships (IEF) Trans-national mobility within EU or Associated Countries (AC) For applicant active in research in EU/AC (any nationality) Host institutions in EU/AC For experienced researchers (= PhD or ≥4 yrs in research) Objective: Training/career development/competence diversification Funding for 1 - 2 years Full payment of the researcher Financial contribution: flat rate Living allowance and mobility allowance Contribution to the training expenses of eligible researchers and research/transfer of knowledge programme expenses Contribute to overheads

5 International Outgoing Fellowships (IOF) Trans-national mobility from EU/AC to TC and return For applicant active in research in EU/AC (any nationality*) Host institutions in EU/AC (return phase) Host institutions in TC (outgoing phase) For experienced researchers (= PhD or ≥4 yrs in research) Objective: Training/career development/competence diversification/ transfer of knowledge Funding for 2 - 3 years (mandatory return phase of 12 months) Full payment of the researcher Financial contribution: flat rate Living allowance and mobility allowance Contribution to the training expenses of eligible researchers and research/transfer of knowledge programme expenses Contribute to overheads Partnership agreement with the TC partner

6 International Incoming Fellowships (IIF) Trans-national mobility from TC to EU/AC For applicant active in research in TC (any nationality) Host institutions in EU/AC Host institutions in TC (possible return phase in ICPC) For experienced researchers (= PhD or ≥4 yrs in research) more senior profile Objective: Transfer of knowledge/cooperation Funding for 2 - 3 years (possible return phase of 12 months) Full payment of the researcher Financial contribution: flat rate Living allowance and mobility allowance Contribution to the training expenses of eligible researchers and research/transfer of knowledge programme expenses Contribute to overheads Additional grant agreement with the TC partner

7 Financial contribution detail Living allowance*: € 58.500 per year (with 4-10 years experience) € 87.500 per year (with 10 years experience) Mobility allowance*: € 700 or 1000 per month (family status) Research/training/ToK/networking costs: € 800 per researcher-month Overheads*: € 700 per researcher-month IEF (2 years, single, <10 years in UK): 221.606€ IIF (2 years, married, >10 years in UK): 309.235€ IOF (3 years, single, <10 years in US and PT): 245.363€ * Rate for individual countries is obtained by applying the correction coefficient

Check the eligibility criteria (experience/mobility) Search for a host institution and scientific supervisor Proposal is submitted conjointly Determine a realistic timetable for drafting your proposal Think about your career prospects and potential impact of your proposal Seek assistance for local office/NCP Contact former Marie Curie fellows (MCFA)

9 * Sub-criteria to be evaluated in the light of the principles of the 'European Charter for Researchers’ and the ‘Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers'.

10 110 M€ budget; 3302 evaluated proposals (~18% success rate – 18% in 2010 – 24% in 2009); 16% overall increase in the number of IEF proposals received; 32% in LIF panel (SOC, ENV, PHY);

11 40 M€ budget; 1290 evaluated proposals (~16% success rate – 12% in 2010 – 15% in 2009); 11% overall increase in the number of IIF proposals received; About 16% of applicants are EU MS/AC nationals; 30% in LIF panel (CHE, ENG, PHY)

12 40 M€ budget; 856 evaluated proposals (~19% success rate – 16% in 2010 – 20% in 2009); 17% overall increase in the number of IOF proposals received; 28% in LIF panel (ENV, SOC, ENG); US is the chosen destination in about 79% of proposals;
