1 The Age of Discovery At the end of the Renaissance new technology made oceanic exploration possible for the 1 st time. European countries like Spain, Portugal, England, France, and the Netherlands explored and colonized places around the world.

2 NEW World and OLD World During the Age of Discovery people from all over the world interacted for the 1 st time in world history. Old World= Europe, Asia, and Africa. New World = The Americas.

3 Why did Europeans Explore? For: GOD, GLORY, AND GOLD

4 GOD EUROPEANS WANTED TO SPREAD CHRISTIANITY AROUND THE WORLD BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT OTHER RELIGIONS WERE NOT AS GOOD.

5 God THEY WANT TO CONVERT (CHANGE) THE RELIGION OF NON-CHRISTIANS, ESPECIALLY IN THE AMERICAS AND AFRICA.

6 GLORY MANY EXPLORERS WANT TO BECOME FAMOUS FOR ALL OF HISTORY. MAKING A NEW DISCOVERY WAS AN EASY WAY TO BECOME FAMOUS AND POWERFUL.

7 GOLD MANY EUROPEANS WERE GREEDY AND WANTED TO GET RICH BY DISCOVERY GOLD AND OTHER VALUABLE RESOURCES AROUND THE WORLD.

8 Gold=Power EUROPE BECAME THE RICHEST AND MOST POWERFUL CONTINENT IN THE WORLD DURING AND AFTER THE AGE OF EXPLORATION.

9 Trade The Europeans set up a system of Trans- Atlantic Trade Routes. These trade routes helped them become even richer.
