Romeo and Juliet Research Project By: Preston Barstow Question: How does teenage violence result from the nature of revenge

 Teenage violence is seriously problem that has to be taught to kids about it, and how revenge can be not carried through. Theme

 When Tybalt and Mercutio fight then they are teenagers fighting. This quote shows them fighting.  "Draw, Benvolio; beat down their weapons. Gentlemen, for a shame! Forbear this outrage! Tybalt, Mercutio, the prince expressly hath Forbid this bandying in Verona streets. Hold, Tybalt! Good Mercutio" (Shakespeare 3. 1. 87)! Theme in Romeo and Juilet

 The nature of revenge. This quote shows Mercutio wants revenge for Tybalt’s insults on Romeo.  "O calm, dishonorable, vile submission! Alla stoccata carries it away" (Shakespeare 3. 1. 74). Theme in Romeo and Juliet

 Question: How does teenage violence result from the nature of revenge  Teenage violence has been happening for a long time and has been happening today.  People want revenge for anything the person does to them. Usually considered, but sometimes carried through which leads to the fight. Topic

 "The woman who took my 911 call was cool and efficient. She recorded the details: a dozen teenagers fighting in the street; one swinging a baseball bat at another on the ground. Then she explained that calls are prioritized and a patrol car would be sent - when one was available. It took more than 15 minutes for the cruiser to arrive and by then the kids had gone, limping off into the darkness taking their wounded and their identities with them" (Hume). Violence Happening Today

 The woman who called the cops on the teenage boys did the right thing. The person getting beat up was probably seriously hurt. The teenage volience taken place here could have happened anytime in our world. Someone does something to a person causing them problems makes that person want to fight. Get revenge you could say.

 The teenage violence in this world is an important issue. In the past insults and problems people caused other people led to teenage violence. That is why the Golden rule is treat other people like you want to be treated.

 "An ancient proverb holds that revenge is sweet. But a recent scientific study out of Switzerland found that planning revenge might be even sweeter. According to an article in the journal Science, Swiss researchers devised an elaborate revenge test and monitored brain activity during a game of double-cross. They found -- unsurprisingly -- that men are eager to exact punishment when they are done wrong, in some cases even if vengeance costs them something" (Austin American Statesman). Nature of Revenge

 The nature of revenge makes people feel good. It leads to most likely violence. They will do it even if it costs them something. They want it so much. Even though its more often considered its not likely to be carried out.

 The brain activates the dorsal striatum which makes you feel enjoyment. This happens when someone wants revenge. So basically people feel good when they want revenge which makes them basically feel good about doing something to someone else. People don't fight for no reason they do it because someone else does it them first.

 "Romeo, the love, I bear thee can afford No better term than this: thou art a villian" (Shakespear 3. 1. 61).  This insult toward Romeo by Tybalt shows that it’s the short term cause of the problem and if this statement wouldn’t have been said then Mercutio wouldn’t have gotten mad, which made him start a fight. Past Connection

 "Three teenagers were fighting for their lives in hospital last night after being stabbed during a 90- minute gang fight in Trafalgar Square, central London" (Daily Telegraph).  This shows how serious teenage violence is and how its been for a long time. Present Connection

 There were two teenagers stabbed in the teenage violence scandal. 19 people arrested. A 90 minute fight with tourists running around. It was a brutal fight that connects to what happened in Romeo and Juilet when the two families of young people fight in the streets. It shows everyone that things like this are a problem that has been happening for a long time.

How does teenage violence result from the nature of revenge? People get revenge some way for something someone did to them. It is less considered not to do it with teenagers. That’s why when it happens it turns into a fight. If there wasn’t revenge then there would be no fight. This has been going on for a long time. What we can do to stop it, is enforce the treat others like you want to be treated rule towards young people. Conclusion
