3 Application of feminist analyses Intellectual critiques of social, political, economic, and cultural circumstances Specifically addresses women and girls’ issues How do we develop egalitarian relationships and promote equal treatment?

4 Feminist identity: Do I need to identify as a feminist? You do not. Students are asked to add this theoretical framework to their intellectual tool box.

5 Ok, so what’s a feminist? Someone who believes in the equality of women and girls in all aspects of life Someone who places those beliefs of equality into daily practice

6 Womanist? Alice Walker coined the term Critical analyses, perspectives, and experiences derived from women of color Created distinction from “white" feminism that ignored issues in the daily lives of women of color

7 Where do I fit into this picture? Consider your ideas in the context of course materials Develop your analyses based on the claims of the lectures, readings, guest speakers, and films Listen closely to your peers, especially those who come to class prepared Share your ideas outside of class with your friends and family Integrate your learning with the reality of your lived experiences
