Cadbury chocolate By Millie Groves

Representation Cadburys chocolate represents itself as fun, relaxing and a traditional well-known product but still new and popular. The advert is shown as fun as there are clothes dancing together to a well-known happy song which shows that they are having fun and feel relaxed; this connotes that if you eat Cadburys chocolate then you will feel relaxed and fun even if the chocolate is just the plain Cadburys with nothing else, its still enjoyable. However, this could also be Cadburys saying that even the Cadburys original is the best because it’s the traditional chocolate. The advert links the new and the old together by using music and clothes from the 80s; this presents Cadburys as an older company but still successful, loved and a fun company just like the song that they play with the advert.

Audience Cadburys adverts seem to want to connect with their audience and enjoy the Cadburys adverts as Cadburys realise that people will remember and enjoy an advert that they find fun, funny or joyful rather than an informative advert that the audience could not enjoy. By Cadburys making their adverts fun, funny or enjoyable means that the audience are more likely to remember it. People also remember songs easily, this means that if Cadburys has a well-known, happy or emotional song that links in with the advert then that will also help the audience remember the advert as whenever they hear that song they are likely to remember that advert which will then remind them of the product and Cadburys itself.

Why Cadburys is different? What really puts people off companies and products is when they make it very obvious in their adverts that they are trying to sell you something. Even though they say they love to give great customer service but the audience know that in the heart of this ‘customer service’ is down to them wanting to make profit. However, Cadburys doesn’t do this as they don’t try to force their product down the audiences throat, they make an advert that makes the audience actually want to watch it because they make their adverts enjoyable which makes the audience feel like Cadburys is more interested in the audience enjoying their advert and with their product giving them pleasure and ‘good time’ rather then Cadburys making a profit off of the audience.

Institution Cadbury s is the world most well-known company for chocolate and is popular all around the world, especially the UK. The company was started by john Cadbury in 1824 that at first started selling tea, coffee and drinking chocolate in his shop in Birmingham. He then started a partnership with his brother, they started to make chocolate itself and in 1854 he received a royal warrant to supply chocolate and cocoa to Queen Victoria. Because this company is so successful, recognisable and loved it means that unlike most adverts where they would have to show the food being made or eaten; in the Cadburys adverts as long as they show the colours of Cadburys then people will be interested in the advert/product and so because Cadburys already have their brand and image out there they can now make the adverts enjoyable for the audience.

Language Cadburys doesn’t really use language but instead uses fun and happy music that speaks for the advert and for the chocolate so with this advert the song says ‘to have a good time’ a lot; this connotes that this chocolate will make you have a good time. There is typography at the end of the advert that says ‘Get and glass and half of joy’ which suggests to the audience that this chocolate will give you joy if eat or drink it and that Cadburys is a company that is serving joy and comfort instead of just a product; this is important as the customer then truly feels valued. Song- ‘we don’t have to take our clothes off’ by Jemain Stewart.
