1 Advanced Art Classes

2 Are you an “Honors” art student? The students interested in this opportunity should exhibit the following characteristics: Intellectual ability- the ability to recognize and resolve visual problems Commitment- the sustained involvement and dedication to art/art making Creativity- the ability to see relevant relationships and apply these to new or different situations Media- An eagerness to explore media for original effects Persistence- A high level of diligence and interest beyond their peers Love of Learning- Displays a strong desire to learn; asks for additional explanation and instruction

3 Honors Option= New Course of Study Honors students will receive a more challenging curriculum- a different course If you apply and are excepted into the Honors Option, you will not be able to “drop” down a level later during the semester Applications for the Honors Option are due at the start of the fourth week of class

4 Application to Honors (see art department page on school web site) 1. Work hard in your beginning level class. See your teacher to learn about the Honors course. 2. 5 Portfolios- Due by 4 th week 1. Create your portfolio of 8 to 10 pieces; including sketchbook pages. Burn images to a CD or create a web site of your work 2. Drop off your labeled CD to the art department or send your web site link to: lmilas@hinsdale86.org lmilas@hinsdale86.org · If accepted into the Honors level, you may not change levels.

6 Portfolio Criteria: The portfolios will be rated on the following criteria: Visual Acuity: Beyond the norm in technical skill and aesthetic judgment – Exhibits an interest in both idea and detail – Exhibits a greater facility with “true to life” appearance – Sees the underlying artistic structure of realistic subject matter Imagination/Creativity: Presents commonplace subjects with more imaginative and with variety of detail Excels in decorative and aesthetic qualities: – Excels in compositional arrangement – Shows an ease in working with media – Can use color with subtlety, as well as brilliance – Able to achieve contrast by well-balanced and integrated coloring Media Exploration: Shows exploration of media for original effects
