9 Contents of the Courses Data Collection Students will learn about the design and the organization of surveys for collecting representative household data; Main topics: sampling design, interview techniques, use of secondary data Lecturers: Steiner and others

10 Micro, Macro and Trade Models helps students to understand and apply different models of relevance in development economics. Micro-level: risk and loss aversion, time preference Macro-level: growth models Trade models: basics for CGE modeling Lecturers: Hübler, Steiner and others Contents of the Courses

11 Asian Economies Students will familiarize themselves with the development and environmental strategies taken e.g. by selected Asian countries. economic structure and institutional settings that have facilitated the economic success of these countries. economic relationships to European countries and how these relationships have influenced the growth of their economies. 12 Development Finance and Social Protection Students will familiarize themselves with selected financial and socioeconomic issues of relevance to developing countries (e.g. microfinance, -insurance) but also globally (e.g. Asian financial crisis ) Lecturers: Wagener Contents of the Courses

13 International Business Relations Students will familiarize themselves with - - international organizations that play a role in financial and technical assistance and - - the influence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities by private corporations and NGOs Lecturers: Grote, Waibel Contents of the Courses

14 Master thesis: 30 ECTS Thesis topics are broad-ranged to cover current issues of economic development of developing countries and environmental issues. Thesis can be also written in cooperation with universities or research institutes in developing countries.
