2 Topic STEM Generic Aims  A mini project to complete which aids learners in deciding on a career path and the steps they need to take to get there  Will also help develop project and planning skills  Build confidence when contacting potential Universities and Employers Level Level 1, 2, 3 & 4 Method Slideshow, Hand-outs, each slide encourages learners to independently research their potential ambition pathway options, progression to university, employment or take a GAP year. Learners are able to share their MAP project with their teachers, employers and peer learners to demonstrate their desirable personal qualities and attributes Equipment  PC/Laptop  Hand-outs Duration 1 Hour +

4 Produce a presentation on what you want to do after you finish college Choose either a University Path, Career Path or Gap Year Path option Remember if you choose a GAP YEAR Path, you will also need to research either a Career or University Route for when you return Use this as a spring board to explore your future plans – it doesn’t matter if they change once you have completed your presentation

5 Begin with an introduction of what you have investigated and why you have chosen your particular path End with a conclusion on the choice you have made and why Include a list of sources you have used at the end of your presentation e.g. websites, prospectuses, books Include images which you comment on in your presentation - photos, diagrams, maps

6 State why you have chosen that course in your introduction If you can not decide on one source remember many Universities allow you to study a joint degree for example English and Art History

7 Visits to Universities References & PS Evidence Folder & Research Work Experience Ratings of Uni & Course Personal Skills & Interests suited to course Finance Area & Accomm Comparisons Uni vs Work Entry Criteria Career Opp 2 Courses Details of Modules Why these Unis? UNI Criteria on your UNI Presentation Route

8 Your presentation should include:Your presentation should include: Why you chose these Universities 2 Courses: Details of modules Entry criteria Career Opportunities Why you chose Uni vs Career as next step Area and Accommodation Finance Personal Skills & Interests (suited for the course) Ratings of Uni and Course Open Days attended Work Experience undertaken/planned How do you think your references will look (include a guess at predicted grades!)

9 Identify 2 to 3 careers you might be interested in following, for example Nurse, Sound Engineer, Tree Surgeon, Journalist Discuss what attracts you to these careers and what qualities you think you may have that fit into this type of work

Work experience undertaken / planned Networking and contacts you have made How do you think your references will look (include a guess at predicted grades!)

13 Your presentation should include:Your presentation should include: Why Gap? How long for? Destinations/Routes Employment while away Volunteering experiences? Costs and how will you fund it? Insurance Other valuable experiences while away Issues for consideration – vaccinations etc Work Experience undertaken/planned Networking and contacts you have made How do you think your references will look (include a guess at predicted grades!) NOTE: You must also look at the Uni Route or career route and produce relevant slides for either Uni or Career for when you return, so pretty much double the work.
