2. AGES AND DIVISIONS TO CONSIDER Grade 1 & 2 – boys and girls can play on lowered rims at 6 years of age. Build a big base. Some associations have different Mini ball rules or concepts. Primary School Rosters – recruit teams as school based teams. Grade 1 & 2, Grade 3 & 4, Grade 5 & 6. High School Rosters – Grade 7 & 8, Grade 9 & 10. Alternative to conduct local rosters through a club based approach or dividing the teams equally when nominations are called for. Senior Rosters – A-Grade, A-Reserve, B-Grade, C-Grade Social Rosters – Masters Rosters, Midweek Rosters, Business Houses Rosters, Mixed Rosters. Allow members to play in multiple rosters – don’t have restrictions – some members may want to play 2 or 3 times per week. Give them this opportunity.

3. CONSIDERATIONS Consider what the members want - timing of the games, degree of professionalism, trophies and prizes. Consider joining forces with another association nearby – share a larger pie. Consider the level of social aspect – eg. opening a bar area, opening a canteen, etc. Set the prices according to your demographics. Eg. Teams in Sydney are paying $80 per game. Allow a place for people to register their interest in joining a team or teams that are looking for additional players eg. website noticeboard. Ensure you look after the Key Decision Makers throughout your leagues (the person who coordinates their team) – know who these people are. Ensure competition is even at all levels – an even competition is a good competition. Many players want to play all year around. Consider small breaks between rosters but ensure you have continuity (basketball becomes part of everyone’s weekly routine). Include all groups in any growth plans – referees, scoretable (if relevant), administrators, volunteers, venues, other suppliers.
