PSALM 1 PSALM 15

Psalm 15:1 O LORD, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill? 2 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart; 3 who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; 4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the LORD; who swears to his own hurt and does not change; 5 who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

OUTLINE OF PSALM 15 The Question (v.1) The Answers (vv.2-5a; six couplets) The Promise (v. 5b)

PRELIMINARIES TO PSALM 15 Not about “how to be saved – justified” It is about “how the saved – justified live” Not about “the conditions to be with God” It is about “the description of those with God” Not qualities initially found in those with God About qualities God creates in those He takes in Does not describe everything about those who are intimate with God, but does give representative descriptions

PRELIMINARIES TO PSALM 15 Moralist: Ethics without salvation Hypocrite: Knowledge without salvation Saved – Justified: a one time event in the life of a depraved sinner declared righteous by God – Regeneration – Confession, Sorrow, Repentance – Trust in Jesus Christ (John 14:6) Sanctification: an ongoing process on earth by the Holy Spirit in the redeemed being made righteous Glorification: a one time event when the redeemed meets Jesus Christ face to face

THE QUESTION O LORD, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill?

HIS CHARACTER He who walks blamelessly and does what is right

HIS SPEECH speaks truth in his heart who does not slander with his tongue

HIS CONDUCT does no evil to his neighbor nor takes up a reproach against his friend

HIS VALUES in whose eyes a vile person is despised but who honors those who fear the LORD

HIS INTEGRITY who swears to his own hurt and does not change

HIS USE OF MONEY who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent

THE PROMISE He who does these things shall never be moved.

HOW ? Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Psalm 111:9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. 10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

HOW? Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

PRINCIPLES When God saves a person they are transformed – regenerated (2 Cor. 5:17) When God saves a person there is evidence – fruit of the Holy Spirit changing them (Galatians 5:22-23) The wise redeemed person wants to be changed (Galatians 2:20)

APPLICATIONS Examine yourself Has God saved you? How do you approach God? How do you respond to the Holy Spirit’s teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness? What are you doing to be more like Christ? What today should change so you could be more like Christ?
