8 Two Sets of Requirements 1) SPHS Diploma Requirements 2) A-G Subject Requirements  Minimum requirements necessary to be eligible to apply to 4-year college after high school graduation

9 SPHS Diploma Requirements  220 Credits  Community Service Hours (45 hours minimum)

10 Special Notes :  5 credits per semester class is earned for grades A-D  Unweighted GPA at SPHS  Each letter grade carries a certain # of grade points: A= 4 points B= 3 points C= 2 points D= 1 point F= 0  Only certain honors classes and all AP classes are given an extra point (weighted GPA calculation done only at the college admissions level, not at SPHS)

25 Physical Education  9 th and 10 th grade students will be programmed for PE courses in fall and spring semesters  Sports/Pep satisfy PE requirements  First semester of Band and Colorguard satisfies PE requirements  Continuation of PE enrollment in 11 th -12 th grades if Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is not passed/not taken. Diploma requirement only: 2 years

34 Directions for Course Selection Use 9 th Grade Course Selection Sheet for assistance  Choose 7 courses total, one from each category (includes 3 courses under “Other Classes”)  All freshmen will be enrolled in 9 th PE Fall and Spring semesters. You must try out and roster for that sport to appear on your schedule  All freshmen are required to enroll in 9 th Grade Study Hall Fall and Spring semesters  Note that some courses have special instructions for audition, try-out, election or Skills Mastery Form, which will be required before being enrolled

36 It is VERY important to practice good study habits now:  Advocate for yourself  Take advantage of tutoring resources (Veritas, SPEF, individual tutors)  Write assignments in your Tiger Guide  Ask questions when you don’t understand  Prioritize your schedule/managing your time  Do all of your homework the day it is assigned & review for tests/quizzes Study Habits

37 Attendance Come to school every day and arrive on time to each class. Absences and tardies do affect learning Consequences: Saturday School, SART/SARB School hours are 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM

38 8 th Grade Programming Dates  SPHS Counselors will do programming presentations with current 8th grade students on Thursday and Friday, March 10-11, 2016 (in science classes)  SPHS Counselors will do 1-1 programming meetings with 8 th grade students on Monday, March 28, 2016

39 Reminders  Parent signature is required; parents to also initial yes/no to “A-G” question.  IMPORTANT: All Skills Mastery Form(s) are due on the day you meet with SPHS counselor (March 28). If you don’t have this form, you will not be enrolled in the class!
