CRITICAL POINTS CLP pictograms and phrases Ingredients information Product identification UFIUFI Commercial Name on labels and SDSCommercial Name on labels and SDS Point 4 of MSDS

Not only used for corrosive substances or mixtures Based on pH or chemical action (hydrogen peroxyde) Used also for corneal damage Substances that cause ocular damage are not necessarily corrosive for skin and mucosae Confusion

 Corrosive pictogram became unuseful for PCC  To treat patients correctly, PCC needs pH and composition  The big risk is to over or under estimate exposure to these products  Corrosive pictogram generate confusion in consumers

CLP phrases are not useful for PCC On label: It is more important to prominently draw attention to the really important messages, rather than to have long warning texts. There was very limited (if any) information sharing from the authorities to the population. Very few people know the new symbols. This leads to confusion.

For some products (pesticides, biocides) only the active substance is mentioned - whereas for poisonings other ingredients (such as the solvent) may be of higher relevance but are not mentioned. Ingredient information on pack is nevertheless needed by the PCCs to provide guidance, if the product cannot be clearly identified or if its composition has not been notified. pH on labels it would be very useful INGREDIENTS INFORMATION (ON LABELS)

INGREDIENTS INFORMATION PCCs are waiting to see the new european standard sheet for products notification to PCCs

Brand names are difficult to identify - it is hard to differentiate between actual product name and variant name, and marketing claims. The product name on the SDS is often not the same as the brand name on the label; especially confusing with different variant and subform names. Often the front panel gives a contradicting message (attractive, natural, etc.) - which gives the consumer a wrong impression about the hazard of the product.

It will always be in the same position on packs, with a fixed background colour, font size etc it will be easy to locate and identify UFI will be only in theory sufficient information for the PCCs, provided that all products have been notified.

POINT 4 OF MSDS Example: From SDS of an irritant product CLP PictogramProduct pH=3

POINT 4 OF MSDS No regulation on point 4 of SDS First aid measures often generated by software Rather than give incorrect and dangerous information is better to submit SDS to be checked by toxycologist

Comment and question? Thank you
