Slope Slope is: Rate of change A ratio of rise and run The change in Y over the change in X The m is Y = mX +b

Slopes of lines Negative = Falls from left to right Positive = Rises from left to right Zero = horizontal Undefined = vertical, leaning neither positive or negative

How do we find slope Count rise over run Use the slope formula Look at the “m” in Y = mX + b

Slopes of Parallel Lines Parallel lines will have same slope Y = 3x + 8 and y = 3x - 4 are parallel (same slope)

Slope of Perpendicular lines Perpendicular lines will have slopes that are negative reciprocals ( multiply to -1) Vertical and horizontal lines are perpendicular

Calculating Slope Given Two Points Take the difference of the y values over the difference in the X values
