2. What is Slope?
The word slope (gradient, incline, pitch) is used to describe the measurement of the steepness of a straight line. The letter in math used for slope is m. You can think of it as the move.

3. Slope Formula

4. To find the slope of a line
Select any two points on the line.
Find the vertical change (rise).
Find the horizontal change (run).
Write the ratio of the rise to the run.
You can also check by counting the lines!~

5. Slope = 𝟐−(−2) 𝟐 −(−𝟏) Slope = 𝟒 𝟑 Points (-1,-2) and (2,2)

8. Positive, negative, zero and undefined slope
Positive slope As points move from left to right along a line that is rising, y increases and x increases and the slope of the line is positive.
Have students sketch it.

9. Negative slope
As points move from left to right along a line that is falling, y decreases as x increases and the slope of the line is negative.

10. If a line is parallel to the x- axis, its slope is zero.
Zero Slope
If a line is parallel to the x- axis, its slope is zero.

If a line is parallel to the y- axis, it’s slope is undefined.
