1
Activator Define heat in your own words.
2
Heat Transfer SPS7. b. Investigate molecular motion as it relates to thermal energy changes in terms of conduction, convection, and radiation.
3
Thermal Energy heat that moves from hot objects to cold objects
4
Conduction Transfer of heat by direct contact. Heated atoms and molecules collide with cooler molecules and transfer their kinetic energy.
5
Conduction Examples Touching a hot stove A metal spoon getting hot when placed in boiling water
6
Convection Transferring heat in liquids and gases by the mass movement of molecules. Hot rises and cold sinks forming convection currents.
7
Convection Examples A pot of water on a stove. Water is heated in the bottom and rises while cool water sinks to the bottom.
8
Radiation Transfer of heat by electromagnetic waves. Does not require matter to be transferred
9
Radiation Examples Face warming in the sun. Heat from a fire.
10
Simulation: Conduction, Convection and Radiation Conduction, Convection and Radiation
