2 Water -In the U.S., each person uses about 379 Liters of water each day! (drinking, bathing, flushing) -In the world, more than 2 billion people do not have enough water -Water is necessary for survival

3 Oxygen -When you take a breath, you bring oxygen and other gases into your lungs -Oxygen is picked up by chemicals in the blood and then travels to all other cells -Cells are the basic unit of life -Oxygen helps cells get the energy they need from food

4 Energy -All life needs energy -Energy is the ability to do work -Without energy, organisms could not grow, move, think, heal or reproduce* -Organisms absorb energy from their environment -The earth’s energy comes from the sun

5 Energy cont. -The sun’s energy is in the form of waves -These waves can be light waves or heat waves -They are known as electromagnetic radiation -Energy is never created nor destroyed, it just changes form -Nutrients are chemicals needed for growth
