3 Click here to get into Reading Counts

4 Put in your user name and your password Then click “Go On”

5 This is where you can take a quiz Check on your progress of the quizzes you’ve already taken Get a suggested reading list

6 Put the title or the name of the author of the book and click “FIND IT!” Then find the book you are searching for and click the “GO!” button. This will take you inside to take the quiz.

8 Choose the best answer by clicking on it. Then click “next”

9 In order to pass a quiz you must get 7 out of 10 correct. There are ten questions for each quiz. There are a certain amount of points for each book you read.

10 Once you have completed a quiz, it will tell you if you have passed and how many questions you got correct. Click Next

11 Rate the book you have read and then click “DONE”

12 At this point you can take another quiz or check your progress. If you did not pass a quiz, you need to wait 24hours before you can take it again.

13 This is a report that you can use to check your progress. To below you can see that The Giver is worth 9 points. Below you can also see the Lexile level of the book, the Reading Level, your average score and how many words you read.

14 Click on Exit to leave the program

16 In order to find out how many points a book is worth before you read it, you’ll need to go to the Scholastic.com/bookexpert website. Please write the website address at the bottom of this page on the green Reading Counts cards you received. Before reading a book, you need to check with your online sign-up through Reading Counts to make sure there is a quiz set up for it. http://src.scholastic.com/bookexpert Write this web address on your Reading Counts card

17 This is how the webpage looks. Check for a title or an author. Once you have found the book you wish to read, check in the Reading Counts quiz webpage to make sure there is an available quiz. This page is also where you can check to see how many points a book is worth.

20 Frequently asked questions: Q When can I take a quiz? A Only during the school day. You will not be able to access Reading Counts after school or on weekends. QDo I need to report to my language arts teacher when I have taken a quiz? ANo. Your language arts teacher will be able to access reports that will allow them to see who is meeting their point goal and who is not progressing. QCan I access the Book Expert Online webpage from home? AYes you can. The only thing you will not be able to do from your home computers is to take quizzes. Those must be completed here at school.
