2 Objectives We will think about how to write a strong lead to start a personal narrative. I will experiment with different techniques for writing leads in my personal narrative.

3 The Hook! The lead, or opening sentences, of our personal narratives are very important. A strong lead can grab our readers’ attention and make them want to keep going, but a weak lead can make readers lose interest right away. Good writers have many ways to grab their readers’ interest.

4 “There was a bat in our house last summer.” Which Lead works better? Why? “Quick, hit the floor,” yelled dad. “Whatever you do, don’t look up!” my mother added in hysterics as I dropped to the floor and slid under my bed. The night my family discovered a bat in our house was truly terrifying.
