2 Most important thing – meeting individual health needs Key to enable access to healthcare are income, education, housing, social networks and attitudes and availability of information Socioeconomic inequalities still a very high priority Sheer number of people affected and severe impact on almost all aspects of health Is Wales Fairer? – Initial Findings – Life & Health

3 Access to care, for particular groups refugees & asylum seekers care home residents people with mental health conditions trangender people people unable to make use of information because of sensory or learning impairments Unheard voices, some relatively small, powerless groups were not heard e.g. Learning disabled children. 5 PSED Monitoring 2015-16 Monitoring objectives that –Impact directly on people –Identified as priorities in the EHRC assessment of inequality in Wales –Linked with Welsh Ministerial priorities Improving access to health care services, with a particular focus on older people Current monitoring period April 2014-October 2015 Telephone interview, Summer 2015

6 Equality Objectives 2016- 2020 Required to review and republish Equality Objectives by April 2016 Setting effective equality objectives will be critical in meeting the duty and in working towards improved outcomes for all the protected groups. To be effective equality objectives should be outcome focused, proportionate and be developed through meaningful engagement with service users.

7 Equality Objectives 2016- 2020 To achieve the aims of the PSED equality objectives need to focus on the most significant equality issues and be sufficiently wide in scope. Based on adequate information and proper engagement. Key aim of the objectives is to drive better outcomes for people from protected groups Specific, measurable, realistic and achievable within a clear timeframe.

8 Equality Objectives 2016- 2020 Welsh Government Approach. For 2012-2015 objectives WG asking: –Do you think this issue should continue to be prioritised in an equality objective for the WG 2016-20 –If yes, do you think it needs to be updated and if so, how? –If you think it is no longer a priority as an equality objective, why is this? North Wales Public Sector Equality Network –Joint cross sector objectives –Combined engagement & consultation –Specific organisational action plans

9 Strategic Equality Plan Strategic Equality Plans –Purpose of the SEP is to document the steps a listed body is taking to fulfil its specific duties. –List of requirements within the EHRC guidance –Once all that information is included, it is up to the authority to include any other pertinent information. –Engagement critical –Due regard to relevant equality information
