2 I. Economic Growth A. When Han Dynasty fell, civil war ravaged China 1. Farms, homes, & villages destroyed B. Economy recovered under Tang Dynasty 1. Merchants traded silk, tea, steel, paper, & porcelain Porcelain 1. Porcelain - ceramic made from fine clay 2. Porcelain became an art form that exists to this day

Poets wrote about nature’s beauty, changing seasons, friendship, & the shortness of life calligraphy C. Artistic writing called calligraphy became an art form D. Song Dynasty artists painted idealized nature scenes Taoism 1. Taoism taught that people should turn to nature & forget worldly concerns
