7 ARRIVAL US Passport holders do not need a visa. You will enter as a tourist and have 90 days to travel EU. 1.Go directly to school at Lindengracht 93 by 1pm 2.If flight is delayed, go directly to housing 3.Cab from Amsterdam Central Station is the easiest 4.Can take a train directly from Schiphol Airport to Central Station

11 1 st and last week of program – Christian run Hostel (Shelter) Will not impart beliefs, but conservative No alcohol on premises Permanent Housing – single studios Amsterdam Public University System Kitchenette and shared bathroom Laundry facilities on site Short walk to classes, but you will need to buy a bike IMPORTANT FOR ALL HOUSING 1.Live in NYU housing only 2.Top Apply Supplemental Forms– can’t select housing option 3.Housing violations can result in expulsion from the program

13 MONEY & EXPENSES -Euro- ATM /credit cards best -Research ATM fees - Alert banks/credit cards -$1 = €.78 (www.xe.com) - Emergency credit card BUDGET -Arrive with Euro -BLOG tips ($150/wk) EXPENSES FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS Regular NYU tuition & Registration fees –Program fee ($640) - Lab fee ($535) – NYU Housing ($2,500 - $200 refundable deposit) ESTIMATES: Airfare: $1,000 - $1,500, Meals: $700, Miscellaneous: $500 SEMESTER ESTIMATE: $2,000 - $3,000 (beyond NYU bill) EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT BUDGETING = PLANNING

14 TIPS Register with the U.S. State Dept. Travel outside the program – must inform director Zero alcohol abuse & drug use policy Local laws & behavior – violations can result in harsher penalties not just failing/leaving program Common sense/Street smarts: be conscientious! ESPECIALLY nightlife, money/ATMs, traveling, passport and personal belongings & DRINKING – decision making, unfamiliar country WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY Know your emergency numbers Report to Director and Police NYU files a report with Public Safety SAFETY #1 TIP: TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF
