1 Welcome Back! P.T.O. Open House 2015 - 2016 Ms. Coffey’s 3 rd Grade Classes

2 All About Me… 9 year old twin girls (Kailyn & Jaden); teaching for 15 years; BA in Elementary Education; Master’s in Natural Science Enjoy volleyball, softball, water sports, and hanging with family/friends

3 Class Expectations… Students and teacher work to develop a sense of community within our classroom. Students should do their best. Students should help others and teacher. Students should be respectful, safe, and responsible. Students should follow the rules

4 Classroom Rules Do what’s asked of you at all times. Treat others the way you want to be treated; no bullying. Follow district and school rules.

5 Classroom Behavior Be Responsible Keep our classroom neat. Turn in all classwork and homework. Be prepared for class. Follow directions and pay attention.

8 What can you expect from me? I will use all of our creativity and resources to teach the Common Core Standards and South Carolina 3rd grade standards to your child. I will keep you informed by sending grades and papers weekly I will email you regularly. I will make myself available to you.

9 What do I expect from my students’ parents? Be involved by looking over graded papers, send back papers signed, help them study, and by making the necessary materials available Work with me Attend school events and be proud of our school Praise your child’s successes!

11 Classroom Schedule 7:30-8:00 Morning work/unpack 8:00-9:00 Math 9:00-9:10 Read Aloud/silent reading & Snacks 9:15-10:15 Reading/ELA 10:15-10:55 Related Arts 11:00-11:12 Journal Writing 11:12-11:37 LUNCH 11:40-12:40 Social Studies or Science 12:45-1:05 Recess 1:10-2:00 Science/SS/Finish other assignments 2:00-2:15 Pack-up & Dismissal

12 GT TIMES Monday 8:00-9:15 Tuesday: 1:15-2:15 pm

13 What do we study? Mathematics (place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, expressions, problem solving ) ELA (Spelling, Grammar, Creative Writing) Reading (Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension) Social Studies (SC History-present) Science (inquiry, habitats, landforms, rocks/minerals, electricity, force, motion) Handwriting: print and cursive letters

14 BINDERS Should have a binder Agenda should be in the front of the binder Homework/notes home go in the front pocket folder of the binder Graded paper folders will come home in the binder on Thursdays (unless otherwise noted)

15 Spelling We will have a pre-test on the words on Mondays. Words students miss will be highlighted on their spelling lists in the agenda. 3 activities have to be done ONLY on the highlighted words (words missed) Post-test will be ONLY on the missed words on Friday.

16 Homework Policy… Write assignments in agenda daily Shouldn’t take more than 30-45 minutes We will always go over it. Should be returned the next day Homework Monday-Thursday Class Dojo may be marked

18 Assessments… Social Studies and Science – Review and activities Math – Test, Quizzes on chapter, vocabulary, and multiplication facts ELA- vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension of books/text we read Writing- journal entries and published work

19 STEM Early Release Days Asking for donations: -Magnets -Cardboard box lids -Marbles -Pebbles/rocks -Playdough -Cardboard tubes

20 Third Grade Events… Redcliff Plantation- Oct. 21 RPSEC- March State House & Museum- March Field Day (Late May) *We will need chaperones. Please make sure you attend volunteer training through guidance.
