Introducing MacAir

Apple Inc was founded Apple Computer Company on 1 April 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. Their first personal computer, Apple I, went on sale in July 1976 and was market priced at US$666.66 It was incorporated 1977 with the financial backing of Mike Markkula In April of the same year the Apple II was introduced With its use of colour graphics and exposed operational structure it stood out. It was immediately adopted by the corporate world and soon the consumer followed.

 Between 1981-1985 Apple Computer Co. birthed the Apple Lisa and the Macintosh. The Lisa failed commercially due to high pricing and limited software while the Macintosh was a triumph. By 1991 the Apple Computer introduced the Powerbook along with System 7. While its competition were delivering cheaper computers, Apple insisted on highly engineered more expensive versions. Continuing development within Apple produced the Powerbook which lead to the iMac and finally the Mac Air.

The thinnest laptop in the word. Greenpeace has applauded Apple’s new laptop, Mac Air, lauding Apple’s focus on making it an environmentally friendly PC. The new machine is mercury and arsenic free. Apple has phased out toxic chemicals Brominated fire Retardents (BFR) and Polyvinal Chloride (PVC). Making the machine its greenest-yet computer. According to Greenpeace this will raise the bar for the rest of the IT industry.

According to Graham Davy the manufacturing sector has become more environmentally aware, as its customers are becoming increasingly discerning about their purchases and basing their buying decisions on green performance and practice This alone forces companies like Apple to consider the environmental impact their products have. Government legislature such as Waste Electrical Electronic Eqiupment (WEEE) have placed the responsibility of recycling in the hands of manufactures This may seen, at first, costly for the manufactures but in fact it is beneficial to them financially

Apple product prices have steadily gone up regardless of environmental factors Apple’s product prices seem to reflect the consumers’ loyalty rather than environment al factors. As it’s a relatively new product being manufactured under recent environmental legislation it is difficult to say that consumer prices have altered due to environmental factors. Perhaps its price will alter in time
