2 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Program Description 2 The Mobile Applications (MA) Program’s goal is to expand the number and quality of services provided to Veterans, caregivers, family members and VA staff It will establish the environment/infrastructure (cloud), an “Apps Store”, develop/integrate VA-specific mobile applications, and provide the device management needed be successful in this endeavor The Mobile Applications Program is made up of two projects: Enterprise Mobile Applications (EMA) and Mobile Development (MD) MOBILE APPLICATIONS ENVIRONMENT Enterprise Mobile Applications (EMA) Mobile Applications Environment (MAE)Mobile Device Manager (MDM) Mobile Development (MD)

4 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Mobile Application Environment (MAE) 4 MAE is a VA private Cloud solution specifically for a mobile application system with interfaces to mobile devices not managed by the VA (i.e. BYOD devices) MAE will host an external “App Store” which non-MDM managed devices will connect to in order to install VA-developed mobile applications Mobile Applications Environment External “App Store” Non-MDM managed mobile devices

5 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Mobile Device Manager (MDM) 5 Serves as the VA’s solution to manage and configure mobile devices – Defined as “internal” meaning devices the VA has provided Will host an internal “App Store” which MDM-managed devices will connect to in order to install VA-developed mobile applications Mobile Device Manager Internal “App Store” MDM- managed mobile devices

6 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Current Projects (What we are doing) 6 Mobile Development (MD) – Development of VA-specific mobile applications – Integration of existing, certified mobile applications into the VA mobile environment Current Work: – Working with business office/customer to finalize business requirements – Developing an overarching Governance process and Governance board to facilitate mobile development from request to release – Developing 2 mobile applications for the first increment – Have a list of 15+ apps to be developed for future increments – Standardizing terminology/data – Standardizing and determining the best development tools and practices

7 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Technologies Utilized/ Capabilities Delivered 7 Full Application Lifecycle (agile methodology) – Development (source code repository, SDK, common services publication) – Testing/SQA – Pre-Production – Production – Platform Agnostic unless specific operating system API published Internal and external “App Store” Mobile Device Management (MDM) will use Air Watch Technology to implement an enterprise wide device management policy GOOD licenses – Email encryption on mobile devices

8 VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Accomplishments to Date 8 Program level efforts – Establishing requirements and process to certify mobile apps – Standardizing terminology/data – Standardizing and determining development tools and practices – Establishing governance process and governance board to streamline requests and development EMA – Environments being stood up beginning Oct 12 – development, pre-production, production MD – Began development of first application to be released in first increment – Clarifying requirements and refining scope for 2 nd application; also planned for release in first increment – Establishing request and prioritization process for apps to be developed in future increments
