How I got into this: (a surrealistic dialogue) R: I’m thinking of having summary talks at SILAFAE Me: I think this is a bad idea R: I’m known for having bad ideas R: I would like to invite you to give the summary talk Me: This even a worse idea – why me? R: Because you are... Me: Old? R: Yes, but I wanted to put it differently Me: It is an honor to accept 2
3
Disclaimer: I could not go to all talks and have no time to be comprehensive. 3

Standard model of particle physics (SM) passed all collider tests and is a consistent theory up to the Planck scale ✔ Universe solved - mission accomplished! Let’s go home and do other things! Theory Summary: Standard model of cosmology ( CDM) passed all observational tests ✔ 4

We still have a few issues to deal with: Naturalness & hierarchy Dark matter Neutrino masses Flavor (fermion masses in general) Dark energy Baryogenesis Gravity Nonperturbative QCD In addition, more precise computations (loops)! Not so fast: All these issues have been tackled in SILAFAE 5
6
Why is the EW scale << M Pl ? Naturalness & hierarchy Some symmetry protecting the EW scale: SUSY Shift symmetry (Higgs as a pNGB) Scale symmetry Extra dimension warping 6
7
SUSY Well motivated but after LHC run I SUSY particles masses are larger than ~TeV - loose connection with EW scale? J.E. mottos:. SUSY anywhere better than nowhere. Find me a better hole Careful with what you wish for SUSY @EW 7
8
SUSY Der Pahlen: Precision automated calculations Cabrera: sneutrino signatures at the LHC Briceno: CPV in top pair production in complex MVF-MSSM 8 Casas: CMSSM is fine tuned but there are ways around light higgsino (~600 GeV) is a robust prediction
9
as a pseudo- boson Kind of a historical irony: 9
10
Higgs as pNGB Higgs mass protected since it is a pNGB from a global symmetry breaking at a scale f – higgs potential and EWSB generated at loop level. Parametrization as an effective theory (like pions in QCD) Already fine-tuned: UV completion? New resonances? Top partners? Anomalous couplings? von Gersdorff: Anomalous gauge boson vertices Cárcamo: Effects of resonances in H-> Tonero: Anomalous top quark couplings 10

Higgs as a portal to New Physics Grojean 11 “NP hidden in the error bars” - Casas

Dark Matter Solid BSM signal from the skies (so far). Beautiful reviews by Ibarra and Matias-Lopes. Indirect signals from DM annihilation:. hint of a 3.5 keV line still controversial. positron excess (Pamela, Fermi, AMS02). antiprotons, antinuclei. gamma-rays from dwarf galaxies Berdugo: AM and DM searches in space Bernal: Halo asphericity effects Rosenfeld: Z 3 dark matter Lineros: WIMP DM and neutrino mass 12
13
Neutrinos Ibarra: Sterile neutrinos as DM Peres: Interactions of sterile neutrinos Jones-Perez: 3+2 neutrino model and H decays Gaitan: Masses and mixings of ’s in extended models Lineros: WIMP DM and neutrino mass Ponce: LNV and neutrino masses in 3-3-1 models Panes: Interpretation of IceCube high energy ’s Civitarese: Interplay of LHC and dos Anjos: Possibility of measuring coherent Neutrino in nucleus using CCDs in Angra (CONNIE) Neutrino masses and mixings require BSM. Properties described by PMNS matrix – almost all known. Nice review by Fogli. Slight preference for 13
14
Flavor Nardi: Flavor from SU(3) 3 breaking Gonzáles-Canales: S(3) flavor symmetry Besprosvany: Flavor from extended spin space Nir:. Flavor puzzles – origin of CKM and PMNS matrices.. CKM rules so far! Passed all experimental tests.. Problems for BSM model-building. Scale of new physics has to be very large (>100 TeV) unless NP respects some symmetries: Minimal Flavour Violation. Higgs as a tool: testing Higgs Yukawa couplings directly; Higgs flavor violation 14
15
Dark Energy Many projects to continue studying Dark Energy using different probes (SNIa, Clusters, LSS, Gravitational Lensing) Dark Energy Survey – DES - taking data Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument – DESI (negotiations with Colombia, Mexico and Brazil) Large Scale Synoptic Telescope - LSST 15 Standard model of cosmology ( CDM) passed all observational tests. w=-1 to 5% (see Gutierrez’s talk) Eagerly waiting for Planck results (see Bucher’s)
16
Dark Energy 16 Brazil participates in DES since 2006.
17
Dark Energy 17 Big challenge: nonlinear GR effects in LSS Effective field theories are being used to tackle this issue – see Senatore’s talk. de la Macorra: Baryon accoustic oscillations Beltrán: Scalar-vector models for DE Ordoñez: Moment transport equations
18
Baryogenesis 18 No satisfactory model for generation of BAU. Gravity String theory – AdS/CFT duality (Lopez talk) Fong: Cloistered baryogenesis
19
Nonperturbative QCD 19 Kopeliovich: soft QCD processes, such as diffractive production, are not well understood - pomerons and other beasts... El-Bennich: Nonperturbative QCD in the wake of the 12 GeV Jefferson Lab upgrade Rojas-Peña: A survey of the mesons spectroscopy from a Bethe-Salpeter approach Levin: Color glass condensate and the BFKL Pomeron calculus
20
Amplitudes and perturbative QCD 20 Important for precise background calculations to New Physics. Impressive progress in the last decade! New techniques: generalized unitarity, cuts, recursion relations, residues, multiloop integrand decomposition,... Sharp automated tools developed: Samurai, Ninja, GoSam Mastrolia talk
21
Amplitudes and perturbative QCD 21 Large number of tools made available recently (NLO revolution):
22
Amplitudes and perturbative QCD 22 Amazing results: Ossola
23
The real summary X SILAFAE was a big success! Many thanks to Marta, Diego, Rafaelle, Gabriela, Carlos Avila, Carlos Vera, Richard, Yeinzon and Cesar for the excellent work! 23
