4 Speaking and Listening There are two parts to this test. 20% Part One: worth 10 marks An individual presentation to an examiner, lasting 3-4 minutes Part Two: worth 20 marks A conversation led by questions from the examiner about your presentation, lasting 6-7 minutes

5 Speaking and Listening The assessor has offered this advice: 20% Part One: worth 10 marks Choose a topic you are really interested in You can only have a postcard size piece of paper with bullet points. A script will be confiscated, leaving you with nothing, so preparation is the key! Part Two: worth 20 marks Students may be asked challenging questions - not to embarrass or pressurise but to show that they can engage in light debate, keep a conversation going and deal effectively with changes in the direction of the conversation.

6 Speaking and Listening So what are you going to talk about? 20% 1. Work Experience) The examiner said... WExp may be a good topic but it is unlikely, I suppose, to be controversial which makes it difficult to ask good questions? Depends what they've done! A girl who worked as a car mechanic, for example, may be a rich vein 2. A topic of your own choice? The examiner said... A talk about football may be good - but better if it includes something about the rules of football, football and racism, footballers' salaries or even the off-side rule. I have had candidates talk about 'Being a carer for my Mum', 'I am a female boxer', 'I want to join the Army', 'Could there be life on other planets?', 'Why I am a vegetarian' but have also had excellent talks from students who have talked about 'My guinea pigs', 'FIFA15' (quite a few talks on X-box games), 'The X Factor'...
