5 Korea Transportation Safety Authority Time, sec Test result(1) Test No.1 : Li-ion battery, 625(745) × 262(477) × 190mm - In case of small size or uncommon shape of Tested Device, the space between Tested- Device and temperature sensors was not enough, the temperature is hard to reach to 800 ℃ within 30 seconds, maintain 800~1100 ℃ for 2 minutes due to characteristic of fire. ☞ The space 50 mm ± 10 mm is more stable than 25 mm ± 10 mm downward from the bottom of the Tested-Device’s external surface. 4/8 Current DraftKATRI Proposal The Tested-Device downward 25 mm ± 10 mm from the bottom of the Tested-Device's external surface. The Tested-Device downward 50 mm ± 10 mm from the bottom of the Tested-Device's external surface.

6 Korea Transportation Safety Authority Test result(2) 5/8 Current DraftKATRI Proposal Not clearThe flame temperature shall be measured continuously at all temperature sensors and the measured temperature shall be averaged at every second during the whole fire exposure ∙ 800 ℃ Reaching time : 42sec Test No. 2~4 - Most of tests meet the test condition and the temperature was more stable when the space is 50 mm±10 mm - Rarely happened, some of measured temperature could not be reached to 800℃ within 30 seconds or maintained 800~1100℃ temporarily (In this case, test fail or not?) ☞ To prevent unnecessary argument, using the temperatures not each one but averaged temperature is recommended. 7 Korea Transportation Safety Authority Test result(3) Test No. 5 : Mock-up, 1500 × 1500 × 150mm - A big Tested-Device could be hard to reach to 800℃ within 30 seconds, maintain 800 ~ 1100 ℃ for 2 minutes at the center area due to characteristic of fire. 6/8 Time, sec ☞ Most of Tested-Device meet the test temperature condition in whole area, but take it into consideration on big size of REESS, the location of sensors should be determined.

8 Korea Transportation Safety Authority Test result(3) 7/8 Current DraftKATRI Proposal The temperature sensors shall be installed at 5 or more points which can represent the whole area of Tested- Device At least one sensor should be located at the center of Tested- Device, and the other 4 sensors should be located within 100 mm away from the edge of Tested-Device towards the center of it with nearly equal distance from each other i.g. temperature measured position

9 Korea Transportation Safety Authority 8/8 Conclusion Current DraftKATRI Proposal (a) The Tested-Device shall be placed on a test equipment, in the position that the manufacturer’s design intends (a) Not changed (b) The temperature sensors shall be installed at 5 or more points which can represent the whole area of Tested-Device downward 25 mm ± 10 mm from the bottom of the Tested- Device's external surface. (b) The temperature sensors shall be installed at 5 or more points downward 50 mm ± 10 mm from the bottom of the Tested-Device's external surface. At least one sensor shall be located at the center of Tested-Device, and the other 4 sensors shall be located within 100 mm away from the edge of Tested-Device towards the center of it with nearly equal distance from each other. The flame temperature should be measured continuously at all temperature sensors during the whole fire exposure. (c)The flame temperature shall be measured continuously at all temperature sensors and the measured temperature shall be averaged at every second during the whole fire exposure. (c) The Tested-Device shall be exposed to the flame directly by fuel combustion. (d) The Tested-Device shall be exposed to the even flame directly by fuel combustion. (d) The Tested-Device shall be exposed to flame for 2 minutes after the temperature reach to 800°C within 30 seconds. The temperature shall not exceed 1,100°C. (e) The Tested-Device shall be exposed to flame for 2 minutes after the averaged temperature reach to 800°C within 30 seconds. The averaged temperature shall maintain 800- 1,100°C for 2 minutes. After direct exposure to flame the Tested-Device shall be observed until such time as the surface temperature of the Tested-Device has decreased to ambient temperature or has been decreasing for a minimum of 3 hours. (f) After direct exposure to flame the Tested-Device shall be observed until such time as the surface temperature of the Tested-Device has decreased to ambient temperature or has been decreasing for a minimum of 3 hours.
