3 Draft amendment of KMVSS
1. Comparison of Fire Resistance Tests ECE R100 Draft KMVSS (Annex 1 -Part 48) (promulgated in Feb. 2009) Draft amendment of KMVSS Purpose To verify the resistance of the REESS against exposure to fire. To leave the driver and passengers with enough time to evacuate. Reference ECE R 34 USABC SGS GTR Draft Scope M and N - Option: REESS’s lower surface is higher than 1.5m Fuel Commercial fuel for positive- ignition engines No comment (LPG + Air) Burning Temp. Pan Dimension - Exceed 20~50cm from sides of DUT 890 ~ 900 ℃ 800 ~ 1100 ℃ SOC 50% Max. operating SOC range or 80% Test Time Phase A (Pre heating) : 60 sec phase B (Direct exposure) : 70 sec phase C (Indirect exposure) : 60 sec phase D (End of Test) : 3 hr Direct exposure : 120 sec -DUT Set up⇒Ignition⇒Reaching 800 ℃ End of Test : 2 hr Acceptance Criteria No Explosion Remark Burning Temp. : about 700 ℃ 1/5

4 Draft of ECE R100 Test Procedure
2. KATRI Outdoor Test by ECE R.100 Draft Draft of ECE R100 Test Procedure KATRI Outdoor Test Review Phase A : Pre-heating, 60sec Only ‘Direct exposure’ Mock-up simulates real DUT size (L x W x H, 920 x 605 x 206 mm) Pan exceed the horizontal projection of the every DUT side by 25cm (Draft : 20 ~ 50cm) Under the DUT(Center) Temp. : about 700 ℃ Even if initial wind speed is lower than Draft limitation, heat generated by flame causes turbulence ∵ speed of evaporation, difference of thermal distribution ☞ REESS are getting bigger ☞ Actually impossible to test on outside Phase B : Direct exposure, 70 sec Phase C : Indirect exposure, 60 sec An explosion proof test facility A large ventilation, emission and waste water disposal facility ☞ An enormous expense Phase D : End of test, 3hr Wind speed : 2.5 km/hr (= 0.69 m/sec) Wind speed : about 0.5 m/sec Fuel quantity : 25 lit./m2 <RESS 3rd Meeting- Test Scene(SP, Sweden)> <RESS 4th Meeting- Presentation(KATRI, Korea)> <EVS22(JARI, Japan)> 2/5

5 (HYDROGEN FUELED VEHICLE ) Draft amendment of KMVSS
3. Reason of Revision KMVSS Test Procedure KMVSS (Annex 1 -Part 48) SGS GTR Draft (HYDROGEN FUELED VEHICLE ) Draft amendment of KMVSS (Plan to Revise in 2013) Burning Temp. : 890 ~ 900 ℃ - LPG + Air, PDA Control - Top of burner is open - REESS are getting bigger ☞ Hard to control of burning temp. range B Test Procedures for Service Terminating Performance in Fire - fire source : LPG - Fire temp. measuring : 5 point ↑ (25±10 mm from the outside surface ) 48. Traction Battery Safety Test Fire resistance Test - fire source : No comment(LPG) Set the burning temp. and then put the DUT on the burner ☞ In the case of heavy and large REESS, hard to set up Localized Portion of the Fire Test - 600~900 ℃, 3 min Engulfing Portion of the Fire Test - 800~1100 ℃, TPRD venting point Direct exposure - 800 ℃(within 30 sec)~1100 ℃, 2 min REESS Dimension & weight of EVs RAY (M1) SM3 Z.E. (M1) ELEC-CITY (M3) E-PRIMUS (M3) QTPE-BUS (M3) 1.7×1.1×0.3m , 300kg 1.3×0.7×0.8m, 250kg Sub Pack.1.5×0.9×0.4m , 150kg Sub Pack. 1.65×0.7×0.5m, 320kg 1.9×1.1×0.5m, 620kg 3/5

Test Equipment & Burning Temp. Test Equipment (Front view) Test Equipment (Rear view) Part of burning Nozzle Mock-up DUT - 920 x 605 x 206 mm Install of Thermocouple - K-Type, 1.5 mm - place : 25 mm Measuring of Temp. - 5 point Temp. distribution - 800 ℃ Reaching : 14 sec - Total Avg. Temp. : 914 ℃ Korea proposes the test procedure according to Draft amendment of KMVSS which is simple, effective and economically viable while achieving the purpose of Fire resistance test. 4/5 6

7 Draft amendment of KMVSS test procedures
Attachment Draft amendment of KMVSS test procedures KMVSS Article 18-3. KMVSS Test Procedure Annex Traction Battery Safety Test FIRE RESISTANCE TEST 1) TEST PURPOSE The purpose of this test is to confirm the safety of traction battery to secure an evacuation time for driver and passengers when vehicle is on fire. 2) TEST PROCEDURE a. The REESS shall be placed on the test equipment. The REESS shall be horizontal. b. The number of temperature sensors shall be at least 5. The sensor locations shall be representative locations which cover the whole area of REESS. The sensor shall be placed 25 ± 10 mm downward from the bottom of REESS. c. Whole bottom area of REESS shall be uniformly heated by flames. d. Temperature shall reach 800 ℃ within 30 sec from ignition. Flames with temperature of 800 ℃ shall be maintained for 2 minutes, after that fuel supply shall be stopped. After 2 hours from the stop of fuel supply, the test shall be terminated. The temperature of flames shall not exceed 1100 ℃. e. Check the explosion of REESS during the test. 5/5 7
