2 When did the civil war occur? – The Civil War occurred in 1861 and finally ended in 1865.

3 The Union There were many leaders of the Union in the Civil War, such as: Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman and John Brown.

4 The Confederacy Like the Union, the Confederacy had many leaders: Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Braxton Bragg.

5 Ulysses T. Grant Ulysses T. Grant was born on April 27, 1822 in Point Pleasant, Ohio. When Ulysses was three years old he became very fascinated with horse back riding, which helped him during battle during the Civil War. Around his teen years, his father decided to send Ulysses to a military school called West Point. He later Joined the Union.

6 Stonewall Jackson Stonewall Jackson was born on January 21, 1824 in Clarksburg, Virginia. His teachers said that he was a good student, but that his mind was “Slow in development”. He graduated from The West Point military school on June 30, 1846. He later became a well known leader of the Confederacy. Stonewall died of pneumonia on May 10, 1863, after accidentally being shot by his own troops.

7 Battles of The Civil War What where the battles of the Civil War? -Fort Sumter -Battle of Bull Run -Battle of Fort Fisher -Battle of Appomattox -Court House -Battle of Gettysburg

8 The war started on July 1, 1863, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The war lasted for three days straight. Battle of Gettysburg

9 Battle of Appomattox Court House The battle occurred on April 9, 1865. Ulysses S. Grant was the General of the Union at the time, while Robert E. Lee was the general of the Confederation. In the end Lee decided to surrender to Grant on April 9 th.

10 Fort Sumter On April 10, 1861, a confederate General declared that the Union of Charlestown, South Carolina should surrender. When the Union refused to surrender, the Confederates opened fire on them, April 12. On April 13, the Union decided to surrender.

11 Battle of Bull Run The battle began on July 21, 1861. The Union army decided to go towards Richmond, But when they arrived they ran into the confederate soldiers arriving from Manassas. The battle lasted for five hours.

12 Battle of Fort Fisher The Battle of Fort Fisher occurred on Christmas day in 1864. During the time Fort Fisher kept Wilmington’s ports open so they could supply Confederate sites with anything they might need. The Union used this as a route to attack the confederate soldiers.

13 Battle of Appomattox Occurred on April 8, 1865. The Battle only lasted for one day. Ended April 9, 1865.

15 Alliances Formed During the war During The War we made alliances with: Spain Great Britain France

16 How Did The Civil War End? The Civil War ended with the surrender of General Lee at the Appomattox Court in Virginia.
